Hello!

Hello! My name’s Joseph Black, but most people in my life just call me Joe. I love creating things, immersive storytelling, animals, technology, and a whole host of other stuff.

Right now, I work full-time as an administrative assistant for a local drug testing company in Indianapolis. We set up corporate accounts, schedule testing, and support our results teams like no other! Before that, I worked for nearly eight years for FedEx Express, making sure your important packages got where they needed to go on time and in one piece. We were usually pretty successful at it, too. Just ask UPS! I also attend Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana part-time in an effort to advance my education in software and web development!

Being a cat-dad to two of the sweetest feline fur babies has had a tremendous impact on my life. Caring for elder Tigger and sweet 2-year-old Rufus, both of whom were rescues, caused me to embrace my love of all animals. For the past two years, I’ve eliminated all meat from my diet and spent considerable time, money, and effort championing organizations like the ASPCA, Humane Society, World Wildlife Fund, and the Barn Sanctuary. In addition, I try to shop smarter to buy household and personal cleaning products that were not tested on lab animals or are considered “green” and animal-friendly.

I love creating things and storytelling. If I’m not spending my free time in a book, streaming a TV series or film on Netflix or Hulu, or running through video game dungeons with my “Fuzzy Wednesday” family members, I’m probably writing my own stories. You might have seen my articles on BlogCritics over a decade ago, read some of my personal accounts on Medium, or maybe even picked up a copy of Ivy Tech’s The Campus Insider that I’ve contributed to. I also recently learned how to knit, and have taken it up as a very serious but relaxing hobby. I guess whoever thought I might one day be researching how animal-friendly wool or silk yarns are wasn’t seriously disturbed after all!
