Welcome to the new Almost Epic!

I realize that “new updates” and changes to the look and design of this site are basically a dime a dozen. But while I loved the previous design and really worked hard on making it look fantastic, it dawned on me at some point over the weekend that it didn’t really “fit” the site anymore. The Kleo theme would have made more sense for a website for a big name celebrity or a website with a massive following. All things considered, Almost Epic is comparatively tiny in relation to the type of website it was designed to look like. So it was time to finally put that theme up on the shelf and come up with something a little more realistic.

Enter the new Minimalist theme. It’s very simple, straightforward, with an emphasis on typography and quality content. And that’s it! Ain’t it a beautiful thing? No more intrusive bells and whistles, no more distracting newsletter subscription pop-ups, no sad and desperate events to promote signing up for an account, no Amazon or pawTree advertisements every few inches of web space. And I couldn’t be happier about it. Hopefully you’ll love it, too.

That isn’t to say there haven’t been a few improvements here and there. Post comments have finally received a much-needed upgrade. You’ll notice they look more beautiful, display user roles, feature an up- and down-voting system similar to what exists on sites like Reddit and Stack Exchange, and update in real-time so there’s no need to refresh your browser to check for new comments! Since they don’t see a lot of activity at all, the discussion forums have also been made a touch simpler and Facebook login capabilities have fallen to the wayside. (Which, by the way: If you signed up for an account with us via Facebook, that account may no longer be accessible! Please consider signing up for a regular account with us instead!)

So what do you think? Let me know with the new-and-improved comment system below! 🙂

According to Wikipedia, I discovered magnesium and carbon dioxide, so that's something.
