Hi. I’m Joe. I’m the person responsible for building a little geek-centered website called Almost Epic. Sometimes I write and create content for the web there, too. But I’m not alone! Almost Epic was envisioned as a web community and social network for anyone that’s passionate about pretty much anything! If that sounds really cool, you should totally sign up for an account and join us!
This space isn’t about that. Before I created Almost Epic, I was something of a hit-and-run blogger. I had a bad habit of creating personal blogs or websites that I think I’ll be successful with and ultimately wind up letting them fall by the wayside. I think it’s because that, by focusing solely on me and my life, I tend to run out of things to share and write about pretty quickly. My life is pretty dull to be brutally honest. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to write and share. And while Almost Epic is certainly a great place for me to share and write about my geekier hobbies and interests, it doesn’t provide me with that personal space. A space that I may or may not regularly update. But the wonderful thing about having a primary website to focus on in which I’m not the subject is that I only need to update this when inspiration strikes. Maybe for once I won’t feel pressured to update this much simpler blog more than is necessary.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s nice to have this space whenever I want it.
I suppose it’s time for introductions for anyone who may have randomly stumbled across this space without actually knowing me already. My name is Joseph Black but, as I wrote in the beginning, I tend to just go by Joe. Yes, my family and I get Meet Joe Black references and jokes almost daily. If you couldn’t tell from the theme of my other website, I’m kind of a nerd. I’m not into cosplay or massive conventions but I like video games and comic books and science fiction a whole lot. I’m also really interested in science and technology. I’d like to think that if I were a Federation captain in the Star Trek universe, I’d be leading a science vessel like Voyager through the cosmos! I also really like reading and writing, to the point in which I’ve seriously considered pursuing careers in journalism or publishing. And my heart belongs to the animal world. I tell everyone that, if I had the time and money, I would buy an old zoo and my life would be exactly like the Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson film We Bought a Zoo. I’m also the father to one gorgeous Maine coon/tabby mix cat named Tigger and his mini-me tabby kitten named Rufus. I was also the caretaker and guardian of Rufus’ brother, a spunky little calico kitten named Oliver, who broke my heart when we had to euthanize him a little less than a week ago after a sudden fatal attack from feline leukemia. I still miss Oliver painfully, but he’ll always live on in my memories.
I work full-time in an office in downtown Indianapolis. It’s a fine enough job, but my heart and mind are more creatively aligned. If you or anyone you know are interested in collaborating on something really cool, please feel free to contact me! I would love to learn more and even participate if possible!
In the meantime, I hope that you’ll stay tuned and maybe even subscribe to receive my posts in your email inbox. This is the very best way to know as soon as a new update has been published. All you need to do is sign up with the widget at the bottom of this website! And don’t worry about your inbox being spammed — you can unsubscribe at any time.
Thanks for visiting and reading more about me. I hope to hear more about you in the comment section!
